Don’t become a pushy sales person! September 9, 2010

To be successful Teach People, Give them Knowledge you are learning

Have you ever been out shopping and seen someone standing with a survey and clipboard just waiting to pounce on the next victim? What do you normally do in this situation? I normally avoid eye contact or avoid them completely and walk the other way. I am pretty sure most of you reading this do something similar!

Why do we do this? It’s because we know if we make any kind of contact they will rush over towards us, tell us about the product they are selling, explain to us how amazing, wonderful, and practical the product is, and practically force us into agreeing to buy it! Is that the kind of networker you want to be? Do you want to force sales and bully people into joining your business?

What is the point of forcing people to join your business? As soon as you leave they will most likely cancel their position in your business anyway! Everyone hates pushy sales people so why as a network marketer would you want to act like them?

Coming across as desperate is not the way to succeed in MLM programs. This doesn’t mean you shouldn’t mention your business to people, if they make it clear that it’s not for them then that’s fine! If the product or program you are promoting is not for them then you don’t want them joining anyway!

Don’t think only of yourself!

Have you heard the phrase “It’s better to give than to receive”? This is very true especially in network marketing. If you are in it for yourself and no one else then I guarantee that you will struggle. I started out in network marketing only thinking only of myself, I was selfish and guess what? I got nowhere! Now I take pleasure in helping people, and I have realized that good things always come back around one way or another. Stop being selfish and start helping others, I promise you, you will feel a lot better about yourself and your business will benefit.

Don’t send SPAM!

Do you hate it when you check your email and its filled with SPAM? I do! That’s why I don’t do it! I will only ever send emails to people who want them, people who have opted into my auto responder.  Some network marketers bombard prospects with 3-4 emails daily just trying to push the product! All you will ever receive from me is useful content and an occasional recommended product. I won’t pitch my business EVER!

Don’t keep your business only online

Don’t get me wrong being online is excellent for building your business. But don’t limit your connections to online. It’s much more personal speaking to someone on the phone or meeting them face to face. Technology has advanced so much now that you can talk to people all over the world with Skype. If you have a business partner on the other side of the world then connect with them. It’s so simple to do and your relationships will really flourish!

Don’t try to be someone you’re not!

Always be yourself. This is the best piece of advice I can give. I have said it before and I will say it again. There is no point pretending to be something you are not to impress people. Sooner or later the real you will show and you will lose value and respect from the people who have connected with you. Be yourself and more people will follow you because they like you. You want to connect with people who like you for you!

Don’t be un-reliable!

There is nothing as bad as connecting with someone who you cannot trust. You know what kind of person I mean! Someone who you go weeks without hearing anything, someone who gives advice that they haven’t practiced, someone who keeps missing appointments, and who spends the entire time “helping you” by pitching their business op!

Don’t just wait for things to happen!

The final point I am going to mention is one I see very often. Don’t sit back and expect MLM to work for you. MLM is an incredible opportunity to become financially free and yes if you stay involved you will have a good future. BUT if you just sit back and wait then it will not work for you or anyone else. Effort is required! This may be a very obvious point but the amount of people just waiting and expecting something to happen is HUGE! Only you can predict the future.

I love hearing your feedback, so please leave me a comment , questions, thoughts, or feedback. If you think this was valuable to you please share this post with your Twitter and FB friends. I totally appreciate it!! Thanks so much for spending time with me here today!

This is excellent post. This is so true, when we are push people tend to run away. Great advise & love the last one “Don’t wait for things to happen” …

It is easy for things to happen if you build relationships, and provide value and make sure let your followers know that you have the answers to the problems they have.
